Cat Soup (Nekojiru-So)

Cat Soup (????? Nekojiru-So, lit. Nekojiru Grass) is an award-winning animated short film directed by Tatsuo Sato, inspired by the work of manga artist Nekojiru. The surreal black comedy follows Ny?tta, an anthropomorphic kitten, on his travel to the land of the dead and back in an effort to save his sister’s soul. Cat Soup was released direct-to-DVD on February 21, 2001. Ny?ko, the older sister of Ny?tta, lies very ill in her room. By accident, Ny?tta sees his sister leaving the house holding hands with the Japanese version of Ksitigarbha, (known as Jizou in Japanese) and follows them. Ny?tta claims one half of his sister’s soul by pulling one arm. Ny?ko’s soul gets split in two, and her brother runs away with one half. Jizou sends a clue about a flower they must search for in order to retrieve the missing part, then walks away with the other half. Ny?tta returns home to find the doctor telling his parents that his sister is dead. Ny?tta gets closer with the half-soul in his arms and puts it back in his sister’s body through her nose. Ny?ko wakes up braindead. Ny?tta and Ny?ko travel together and visit a circus (where god is represented as a magician). The final act causes a flood of water, which covers everything. The two of them end up on an Arc-esque boat with a pig, which they eventually begin to eat (by unzipping his stomach and pulling out butcher slabs). God drains the world of the oceans, leaving the cats and pig stranded in a desert. The pig bites off Ny?tta’s arm, which is repaired by a desert-dweller who makes dolls from the pieces of other cats. Traveling across the desert, they are brought to a house by the smell of food, and are invited inside by a man. They are fed, and when full the man attempts to turn them into soup, attacking them with a pair of scissors. He ends up falling into the cauldron, and the cats escape. Wandering further across the desert dehydrated, Ny?tta digs and finds an elephant made of water, which cools them off and travels with them, though the elephant eventually evaporates from the heat. God accidentally stops the flow of time and disrupts space, and the cats play with the time-frozen scenes. God turns time back on, shooting it forward and reversing it, and the cats find themselves back on their boat in the ocean. They drift into a marsh of metallic plants and creatures, coming across the flower that restores Ny?ko to normal. Nekojiru (?????); January 1, 1967May 10, 1998; was a Japanese female mangaka. Her real name was Hashiguchi Chiyomi (?? ????); her maiden name was Nakayama (???). In 1990, she debuted in the June issue of the monthly manga anthology Garo with Nekojiru Udon, which is now considered her definitive work. She committed suicide on May 10, 1998. At the time, the media suggested that it was a reaction to the death on May 2, 1998 of the musician hide in response to that theory, Nekojiru’s husband, Yamano Hajime, said that Nekojiru’s musical taste was in a completely different genre to hide, and that her death was unrelated. He stated that “She probably hasn’t listened to even one second of hide’s music”. Without a suicide note, her motivation for suicide remains unclear. Other suggestions include that it was caused by drug use or anxiety over Yamano’s womanizing. Shortly before her suicide, Ny?ko and Ny?tta, the two main characters of Nekojiru Udon, were selected to be used by Tokyo Electric in promotional campaigns. South-Asian Delights in Southall

Our last day in London (May 12, 2008) had arrived. We got up at the crack of dawn for early morning adventure: a sunrise kayaking experience on Regents Canal. At 5:45 we met Danny Gillard from ThamesRiverAdventures who recently started a kayaking outfit that provides guided kayak tours in different parts of London. Danny, who is an occupational health and safety specialist by profession, also plans to offer kayak tours in Australia and New Zealand in the winter. Kayaking on this historic canal was a supremely peaceful and serene activity and introduced us to this bustling metropolis from a completely different angle. For me personally this sunrise kayaking trip was a definite highlight of my entire London experience. After freshening up at our bed and breakfast we headed out at 11 am with our guide Ann Mark, a certified Blue Badge London tourist guide, who took us in a couple of double-decker buses to Southall, one of Londons ethnic neighbourhoods. Over the last few decades this area has become a centre for Londons South Asian community and the streets are lined with Indian and Pakistani stores and eateries. Ann, a very openminded and cosmopolitan character, was appropriately dressed in a sari since she had just recently returned from a trip to India herself. The three of us girls got enchanted with the colourful jewellery and clothing on offer at the various retail outlets, and our neighbourhood walk turned into a bit of a shopping spree. We picked up a variety of beautiful scarves and jewellery, all at great prices. At one upscale clothing store my travel partner Andrea even tried on an Indian party dress and modeled it for us. We stopped at a local eatery to sample some delicious spicy South Asian food, and at 13 pounds for three people it turned out to be a rather affordable culinary experience. I interviewed several of the shopkeepers and street merchants, and all of us enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere in the Southall shopping area. We then strolled past the historic Himalaya movie theatre and stopped off at a South Asian supermarket where Ann and Andrea picked up some supersized bags of tea and other exotic merchandise. I had a chance to interview Ann who is an interesting character, a former investment banker turned tourist guide who is certified to provide professional London tours in six languages. Londons multicultural flavour was definitely evident. Our evening continued along the same lines. Since we had to get up very early the next day for our departure, we decided to eat locally close to our bed and breakfast in the Holland Park area. We found a quaint little Thai restaurant called the Cool Monkey where we enjoyed generous portions of flavourful South East Asian food. Over the past three days we had caught a glimpse of so many areas of London, and I had got a good impression of this citys phenomenal diversity. From the downtown banking district to Buckingham Palace to a boat ride on the Thames River to early morning kayaking and explorations of different ethnic areas, London was a great experience, and I cant wait to get back there and explore even more facets of this one-of-a-kind metropolis.

From 04-18-01 (date on the footage is incorrect) This was the second of three Warstars performances featuring Andy Warstar as the infamous Kaptain Slogbaud, a satanic alien from another the Bortkore Starkluster, hellbent on the destruction of planet Earth! Here we see Andy Warstar, er, Kaptain Slogbaud on lead guitar/screaming, Kreist Gryndor (say Christ Grinder) on bass guitar/grunting and Battleship Potamkin on the percussion. Interesting to note is that the Warstars used three full size oil barrels for drums, and Andy used a frying pan as drum sticks. Oil? Frying Pan? Perhaps the Warstars were making a statement about the evil of fried foods here as well. I guess we will never really know…

Civilians protest against Red Cross Civilians protest against the ICRC for not supporting the transport of essential food to un-cleared areas via the Omanthai road barrier. Lorries loaded with food, are lined up with food loaded in Vavuniya to be dispatched to these areas. Drivers of these vehicles are awaiting ICRC support to leave. The Red Cross had frequently not supported the Governments humanitarian aid programme for the benefit of civilians trapped in LTTE dominated areas. The Red Cross, on one occasion, withdrew its flag from vessels carrying food to Jaffna. They also disassociated themselves in the granting of relief to Muslims displaced in Muttur. Civilians of un-cleared areas referred to the injustice caused to them by ICRCs non cooperation from time to time. The LTTEs desire is to halt the transport of essential commodities and the civilians accused the actions of the Red Cross amounted to supporting the desires of the terrorists. Those NGO’s are there to get benifits for themselves not for the people who need it. This is what happen all over the world. But we can’t understand it…We should chase them away from each and every contry…They are like wound licking dogs of some country, no need to mention…You know that well.

Demi: What are you doing here? I havn’t see or even spoken to you in almost a week and you all of a sudden turn up here, You’ve just been giving me like the silent treatment. Robert: Yeah Im sorry.. He said as he looked away from a moment down to the floor, Demi got out of bed just as Robert entered the room and closed the door, he made his way closer to Demi. Right now I feel real guilty about what happened… I love you Demi, you know that, I told you at the masquerade ball and I don’t know if we are together or not but like I just said I am really sorry and to make to upto you.. I want to take you out to dinner tonight… Roberts POV- Something I said was actually truthful because I was sorry and do love Demi. I feel horrible for what I done to her. Now I just want to fix everything which I know is impossible but it is possible to move on, right? which is what Im trying to do with her. It was only a little white lie I told about her getting herself drunk, I can’t tell her that I practically spiked her drink, a little white lie won’t hurt, it can’t. I hope now she can just accept my apology. Normal POV- Robert looked at Demi again, Demi could see how sorry he was by the look of his face. She took a step closer to him. Demi: Your forgiven.
